September Reads
Okay, lesson learned……..a 13-book TBR is too much for one month. To be fair to myself, I only set my sights on 11 at the beginning of August, but then I tacked on two more that I got at the library and somehow didn’t realize that I didn’t actually have enough time to get through them all. I spent July lying around like a potato and reading four books a week, which, in retrospect, gave me slightly unrealistic expectations for August. Since I don’t anticipate having another month off, I’ve scaled back my plans for September in favor of practicality.
TBR
The Book of Night Women
Marlon James
That’s right, this is still on the list from August and I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO READ IT THIS MONTH IT’S AT THE TOP OF MY LIST
The Priory of the Orange Tree
Samantha Shannon
I love having booky friends, because it means we get to do buddy reads and we have a reasonable chance of not disappointing each other! Lori and I will be starting this one on Labor Day, and I can’t wait to get into it. I mean, sure, it’s 831 pages, but buddy reads tend to make me feel more accountable than I would if I were just reading by myself, so it’s good we agreed on the biggest possible book.
The Poppy War
R.F. Kuang
I learned about this one through BookTube and bought the first two books in the series. The third one comes out in November and I’ll need to have the first two read by then, which is why Poppy War got moved up the list despite having arrived relatively recently.
How Much of These Hills Is Gold
C Pam Zhang
September seems to be getting a lot of August’s leftovers…
Girls Made of Snow and Glass
Melissa Bashardoust
Maybe if I pick enough quick reads I can actually make my goal this time?
Currently Reading
Opium and Absinthe
Lydia Kang
Yes, I’m still working on this. I’m the worst.
The Map of the Sky
Félix J. Palma
This is the sequel to The Map of Time, which got added gratuitously to my August TBR and quickly took precedence over the rest of the list the minute the library dropped it into my hands. I REGRET NOTHING.
Mockingjay
Suzanne Collins
I’m buddy-reading this one with Lori, which is literally the only reason I consented to pick it up again. I feel pretty good about this one: it’s a super quick read, I’m about 68% of the way through, and I’ve actually been enjoying it more than I thought it would. Of course, that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t still been pissing me off. Either way, this one will be finished no later than tomorrow.
I have a shop!
If you’ve ever looked at my reading list and wished you could get your hands on my books, I have good news: I’ve set up a bookshop just for you! I recently (read: within the last two months) signed up for Bookshop, an online platform that works to support independent bookstores, and finally set up my storefront and product lists today. They’re currently in their beta stage, so the website is a little buggy, but it seems to work pretty well so far.
My shop is here. I will be organizing my books by year, and so far have listed almost everything I’ve read in 2020, along with my all-time favorites. Please note that I am an affiliate, and will receive a commission for every book sold through my page.
I fully support your reading success last month!
I ESPECIALLY support your TBR for September and all of the fantastic buddy reads we have in our immediate future! I’m excited to hear your thoughts on Poppy War. I’ve been hearing some very mixed reviews on the series.
Congrats on your shop! I love this for you!!
Thank you!!! I’m super excited for our buddy reads!!! (Also will definitely keep you posted on Poppy War there is no escape :D)
